Two Cleaning Companies in JLT: One Gets 40 Calls a Month, the Other Gets 4
Two cleaning companies in the same Dubai tower. One gets 40 monthly calls from Google, the other gets 4. Same service, different visibility. Here's the gap.
Two cleaning companies operate from the same cluster in JLT. Similar pricing. Similar service quality. Both have been in business for over 3 years. Company A receives 40 enquiry calls per month from Google. Company B receives 4.
What Company A Does
The service isn't the difference. The digital presence is.
Company A's Google Business Profile has 186 reviews at 4.7 stars. They respond to every review within 12 hours. Their profile includes: 50+ photos of actual cleaning jobs (before and after), a complete list of services with descriptions, regular posts showing recent work and seasonal offers, and accurate coverage areas listed by neighborhood.
Their website ranks on page 1 for: "deep cleaning JLT," "move out cleaning Dubai Marina," "office cleaning DMCC," and 12 other neighborhood specific search terms. Each service has its own page with specific pricing, what's included, and customer reviews relevant to that service type.
What Company B Does
Company B's Google Business Profile has 11 reviews at 4.4 stars. No responses to any review. Three photos, all of their logo. No posts since creation. Their website is a single page listing all services in bullet points. No pricing. No photos of actual work. The only call to action: a phone number at the bottom.
Company B's website doesn't rank for any local search term because a single page with bullet points provides no content for Google to evaluate. There's nothing to rank.
The Specific Gaps
**Reviews.** When someone searches "cleaning service JLT," Google shows businesses with more reviews first. 186 versus 11 is not a competition. Company B needs to ask every satisfied customer for a review. At 3 new reviews per week, they'd reach 150 within a year. That alone would transform their visibility.
**Service pages.** Company A has separate pages for: deep cleaning, move out cleaning, office cleaning, villa cleaning, carpet cleaning, and AC duct cleaning. Each page targets a different search term. Company B's single page competes for no specific term. Creating 6 focused service pages takes a weekend of writing and immediately gives Google 6 opportunities to rank them.
**Before and after photos.** In cleaning, visual proof is the most persuasive content possible. A sparkling kitchen next to the same kitchen covered in grease tells the story better than any copy. Company A photographs every job. Company B has never taken a single work photo.
**Neighborhood targeting.** Company A's website mentions specific areas by name: JLT, Dubai Marina, DMCC, JBR, The Greens, Discovery Gardens. When someone searches "cleaning service The Greens," Company A appears because the neighborhood name exists on their site. Company B mentions "Dubai" once and targets nowhere specifically.
**Google Maps presence.** Company A's profile is complete, active, and reviewed frequently. Google rewards this with higher placement in the local map pack (the 3 business listings that appear above organic results). The map pack captures 42% of clicks for local service searches. Company B doesn't appear in the map pack for any search.
The Cost to Close the Gap
This is what makes local service marketing different from other industries. The gap isn't expensive to close. It's labor intensive but low cost.
Getting reviews: free (just requires asking). Creating service pages: 3,000 to 5,000 for a web developer, or free if done with a website builder. Taking work photos: free (a smartphone is sufficient). Posting on GBP weekly: 30 minutes per week. Responding to reviews: 5 minutes per review.
A Dubai pest control company in a similar situation invested 4,000 in website pages and spent 4 months collecting reviews. Monthly enquiries went from 6 to 28. Cost per additional lead: roughly 180 in the first year, dropping to near zero in subsequent years as the reviews and pages compound.
At NERDSEY, local service business marketing is one of our highest ROI service offerings because the gap between invisible and dominant is smaller than in most industries.
Search "cleaning service" plus your neighborhood on Google right now. Count how many competitors appear before you. Each one that does has more reviews, more content, or a more complete Google profile. Which of those three gaps is largest for your business?
