The Dubai
AI Citation
Index 2026

We asked Google AI Mode and Perplexity who they recommend for nine common Dubai business searches. Here is who the machines name, who they ignore, and why it matters more every month.

The one finding

When someone asks an AI for the best business in your category, your website is not what answers them. Something else decides whether your name comes up.

In eight of nine searches, the sources the AI pulled from were third party best of Dubai lists, directories, and review roundups, not the companies own sites. The AI reads those lists and repeats the names on them. The pattern behind which businesses it picks is the whole story, and most are on the wrong side of it.

What we did

Nine real searches. Neutral and logged out.

Each search is a real question a Dubai buyer types. We ran them on Google AI Mode and Perplexity, logged out, so the answers are the neutral ones a real stranger sees, not personalised to us. For every search we recorded two things: the companies the AI named, and the web pages it cited as its sources. Every result is screenshotted and dated. This is primary data, run in June 2026.

[ the nine searches ]
  1. “best marketing agency in Dubai for small business”
  2. “best SEO agency in Dubai for small business”
  3. “best ERP implementation company in Dubai”
  4. “best IT support company for small business in Dubai”
  5. “best custom software development company in Dubai”
  6. “ERPNext implementation partner in UAE”
  7. “best digital marketing agency in Dubai”
  8. “best AI automation agency in Dubai”
  9. “who can build a website for my small business in Dubai”
What we found

Three patterns, every category.

[ finding 01 ]

The AI does not read your website to decide if you are good. It reads other people lists.

In eight of the nine searches, the pages the AI cited as its sources were third party "best of Dubai" and "top companies" articles, directories, and review roundups. The engine reads those lists and repeats the names on them. If you are on the lists, you get named. If you are not, you are invisible, no matter how good your own website is.

[ finding 02 ]

Reviews decide who gets singled out.

When the AI explained why it picked a company, it pointed to reviews. One firm was named specifically for its 450 plus positive Google reviews. Another was singled out at 4.9 out of 5. The businesses with deep, recent review counts are the ones the machine trusts enough to put first.

[ finding 03 ]

The companies winning are not always the best. They are the most documented.

The names that came up again and again were the ones with the most third party coverage and the most reviews, not necessarily the ones doing the best work. AI visibility is a documentation game, and most Dubai businesses are not playing it, because nobody told them it had started.

The uncomfortable part

We tested our own categories too, the same neutral way, and sat with the result honestly.

In the categories we compete in, marketing and SEO, the AI did not name us either. We publish that openly, gaps and all, at our live AI visibility record. Being genuinely good at the work is not what gets you named. Being documented is. That gap, between deserving to be recommended and actually being recommended by AI, is the exact problem we built NERDSEY to close. We do not guess at it. We measure it, the same way we measured this index, and then we move a business from invisible to named, deliberately.

Why this is the search that matters now

There is no second place in an AI answer.

Buyers used to scroll ten blue links and judge for themselves. Increasingly they ask one question and take the AI three names. If your business is not one of those three, you are not in a worse position on the page. You are not on the page at all. This is happening across every category we tested, today, in Dubai, in the exact words your customers use.

The Dubai AI Citation Index runs again each quarter. June 2026 baseline. Methodology and dated screenshots on file.
